Addix calculator
This is an “Addix” adder machine.
It’s very simple, but it’s nice. It’s one of the many clones of the “Adix” developed by Joseph Pallweber in 1903.
He was an Austrian engineer and clockmaker, considered the inventor of watches with snapping numbers.
The first version of this adding machine had a complicated method for resetting the counter to zero, you had to press the 1 button, and turn various gearings with your hand.
Joseph Pallweber together with Adolf Bordt set up the “Adix” Company to develop and sell these machines.
Despite the complicated reset procedure, they sold quite well as they were cheaper than other calculators of that period. It’s a simple adding machine.
You can use it only for adding numbers up to 999.
It’s very limited, but you can use to count boxes, do inventory, simple accounting, etc.
And it’s very light, so you can take this calculator with yourself in the fields, in factory, at school.
It has been the first calculator to use parts in aluminum, lighter than steel.
If you want to see how it works, just look at the video!
