Hammond Multiplex
Hello everybody.
This is a "Hammond Multiplex" typewriter, from around 1913, in his wood case. If you are used to see modern typewriters, for sure this will look strange.
But in fact is one of the more interesting typewriters.
The Hammond was one of the earliest typewriters to be produced commercially. The first model was introduced in the early 1880s.
It was invented by James Bartlett Hammond of New York who developed this innovative system of typing.
It can have two sets of characters, it stores the paper inside the typewriter, there isn't the typing bar that moves against the roller but a little hammer that hit the character, and other unique features.
If you want to see how it works and the other particularities of this typewriter, there is this video.
