Remington Junior (1919)

This is the “Remington Junior”.

Remington used the same name, “Junior”, for two typewriters, one in the 1930s, and also for this model. The later Remington “Junior” is quite different, and they have in common only the name.

Remington started to build this first “Junior” in 1914.

Remington is an old manufacturer of typewriters, producing them since 1871.

This Remington “Junior” is the Remington’s first attempt in this portable typewriter market, back in the 1914.

This typewriter was manufactured in US, in the Smith Premier factory in Syracuse.

The price was 50$, that is around 1300$ nowadays. It seems high, but it was more than half of the cost of other Remington typewriters.

So Remington abandoned the “Junior” model, which did not sell well, and introduced a new line of portables in 1921.
